The Gramophone is at 4243 Manchester Avenue in The Grove. According to its own About page, it was “born in March 2008 as an intimate concert club,” and after seven years and more than 1,500 shows it became a sandwich pub in February 2015. The music didn't leave with the change. Live music and DJs still play Thursday through Sunday.

What it is now

The site lists 20 beers on tap plus a rotating selection of bottles and cans, running from local craft to national lagers. There's a pool table and a pinball machine inside, and a dog-friendly patio out back with local art. One thing to know if you're planning around a group: the About page says plainly that the pub does not do private parties.

The Enzo Gorlomi

The sandwich board is long, and the Enzo Gorlomi is a good place to start reading it. The menu describes Volpi capicola, salami and sopressata, pepperoni, provolone, pepper mayo, lettuce, tomato, red onion, Italian vinaigrette and spicy giardiniera on a sesame baguette.

Sandwiches come whole or half. The menu also says any of them can be made as a wrap or a salad, or made vegetarian by swapping in portobello mushrooms for the protein, and it points regulars to a special board for the weekly special.

Soup, sides and a little Provel

There is one soup on the current menu: a jalapeño popper soup made with creamy cheese and fresh jalapeños, topped with green onion, sold by the bowl or cup. A couple of sandwiches put that same soup inside the bread.

Sides include a homemade mac and cheese made with Gouda, white cheddar, Provel and Cheez Whiz, plus loaded mashed potatoes, a garden salad and chips from the shelf. Provel, the cheese behind St. Louis-style pizza, turns up across the sandwich list too.

Late kitchen and hours

The About page says the full sandwich and soup menu is served until 1 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday and until 11:30 p.m. on Sundays. The hours list on the same site shows 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to midnight on Sunday, and closed on Mondays.

Hours, menus and prices change, so check the venue's own site (it also keeps a music calendar) before you go.
