Square One Brewery & Distillery sits at 1727 Park Avenue in Lafayette Square, in a restored building from 1883. The venue describes itself as a working brewery, a distillery and a neighborhood restaurant, and it has been operating since 2006.
The building
According to the venue's own history page, Christopher Schumacher built the corner building at 18th and Park as a tavern in 1883, and it is on the National Register of Historic Places. Anheuser-Busch acquired it in the early 1900s and ran it as a tied house with a tavern and dance hall; during Prohibition it operated as a soda fountain, and it went back to being a tavern and restaurant in 1934. A major fire in June 2004 was followed by a full renovation of the building and its courtyard.
A brewery and a distillery
Square One's own site says it became Missouri's first craft microdistillery since Prohibition in 2008. The venue describes itself as a working brewery and a distillery under one roof.

The current menu lists a Scotch Egg: “One hard-boiled egg wrapped in house-made bratwurst, deep fried & served with our Pale Ale Mustard.” It appears under appetizers and again on the weekend brunch menu. Brunch runs Saturday and Sunday mornings; the kitchen's weekday hours are listed on the site.
